I'm not sure how to add width to the waist of pants unless it's like men's pants that have a waist made to be let out. You know how they have those button extenders for men's collars on button up shirts? You could probably make/find something like that. I didn't understand what you were saying about adding elastic like old man pants.
My boyfriend has some pants that have these elastic extending waist bands, so when you grow or sit they expand, but are still snug...I thought of trying to somehow make a waistband like that, but I actually wore them today and they stretch enough that I don't have to...a weird question, I know, and thanks for offering your idea!
